Lars Ahlstrand

Lars Ahlstrand was born in 1958 in Copenhagen, Denmark. His works visualize influences and moods from the Indian nature, and a life of abstract painting. Lars Ahlstrand has visited West Bengal, India for two decades, and has been hugely influenced by the Bengali natural landscape, the life in the tribal villages, the people and the contrast with life in the big city of Kolkata, India, which houses around 15 million inhabitants. His color palette consists of tempera paint with pigments; clear, bright and strong colors that are well worked out, making the abstraction work on the canvas.

“My style has evolved over the years. But I have always mixed my own paints from carefully selected pigments I buy on my travels. I lived and painted in India for almost a decade. Now I am based in Copenhagen, Denmark, where I paint in my studios in Copenhagen and Gedser after inspiration from a life of abstract painting.”
